(Sejong=Yonhap Infomax) Jun Hyung Park – On the 12th, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Gu Yoon-cheol met with Vietnamese Finance Minister Nguyen Van Thang at the Government Complex Seoul to discuss ways to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
Gu introduced South Korea’s plan to transition to a "super-innovative economy" through the promotion of artificial intelligence (AI) and other advanced technologies.
He emphasized, "Even amid rapidly changing global cooperation environments, it is essential for both countries to maintain strong collaboration across various sectors, including trade and investment." Gu added, "We will actively support bilateral economic cooperation by utilizing the Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP) and the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF)."
Minister Thang congratulated Gu on his appointment and outlined Vietnam’s recent robust economic growth and the government’s organizational restructuring related to economic cooperation.
Thang expressed hope for further developing close ties with South Korea, a leading nation in advanced technology, and requested continued attention and support from the Korean government.
On the previous day, the leaders of both countries agreed in a joint statement to deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership, setting a target to achieve $150 billion in bilateral trade by 2030.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance plans to continue discussions on cooperation with Vietnam through high-level consultative bodies, including the APEC Finance and Structural Reform Ministers’ Meeting and the Korea-Vietnam Deputy Prime Ministers’ Meeting, both scheduled to be held in Incheon in October.
