(New York=Yonhap Infomax) Jin Woo Choi – US nonfarm payrolls increased by 119,000 in September, more than double market expectations.
On the 20th (local time), the US Department of Labor announced that nonfarm payroll employment rose by 119,000 in September compared to the previous month.
This figure is more than twice the market consensus of 50,000.
The unemployment rate for September stood at 4.4%, slightly above the forecast of 4.3%.
The Department of Labor noted, "Employment continued to grow steadily in healthcare, food and beverage services, and social assistance sectors," adding, "However, jobs declined in transportation and warehousing as well as in the federal government."
