(Seoul=Yonhap Infomax) Young Sook Yoon, Su Jin Yoo – Samsung Electronics Co., South Korea's largest company by market value, has officially appointed Roh Tae-moon as co-CEO, entrusting him with the helm of its Device eXperience (DX) Division, which oversees the mobile and consumer electronics businesses.
In its 2026 annual executive reshuffle announced on the 21st, Samsung Electronics named Roh, who had been serving as acting head of the DX Division and head of the Mobile eXperience (MX) Business, as President and CEO, as well as head of the DX Division. Roh will continue to lead the MX Business.
Jun Young-hyun will remain as Vice Chairman, continuing in his roles as head of the Device Solutions (DS) Division and the Memory Business.
With this move, Samsung Electronics restores its dual-CEO structure, signaling a clear strategy to pursue both future business growth and management stability amid an uncertain business environment.
Throughout this year, President Roh has concurrently served as acting head of the DX Division and head of the MX Business, overseeing Samsung's global consumer electronics operations, including smartphones, TVs, and home appliances. He is credited with driving key achievements such as enhancing the development of the upcoming Galaxy S25, expanding market share in the premium smartphone segment, and accelerating strategies in artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and home platforms.
This executive reshuffle is seen as a move to formally entrust Roh with the overall leadership of the DX Division, leveraging his track record to maximize synergies across mobile, TV, and home appliance businesses.
The latest appointments also highlight Samsung's focus on promoting top technical talent. To accelerate its transition to an "AI Driven Company," Samsung Electronics has placed leading experts at the forefront of each business area.
Yoon Jang-hyun, CEO of Samsung Venture Investment, has been promoted to President and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the DX Division and head of Samsung Research.
Park Hong-geun, a distinguished professor at Harvard University, has been recruited as President and head of Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT). He will officially join Samsung Electronics on January 1 next year.
President Yoon is recognized as a software platform expert, having previously led the IoT & Tizen Development Team and Software Platform Team within the MX Business. Since late last year, he has overseen investments in AI, robotics, biotech, and semiconductors as CEO of Samsung Venture Investment.
Samsung Electronics stated, "President Yoon will drive synergies between our core businesses—mobile, TV, and home appliances—and future technologies such as AI and robotics."
Park Hong-geun, the new head of SAIT, is a globally renowned scholar who has spent over 25 years at Harvard University researching fundamental science and engineering. He is expected to lead research in next-generation devices, including quantum computing and neuromorphic semiconductors.
Samsung Electronics also announced its intention to maintain concurrent leadership structures in major business units to strengthen market responsiveness and technological leadership.
Vice Chairman Jun Young-hyun will continue as co-CEO, head of the DS Division, and head of the Memory Business, reinforcing the company's legacy and leadership in memory technology.
Samsung Electronics explained, "To ensure continued competitiveness and market leadership in key businesses such as MX and memory, both division heads will retain their concurrent roles as heads of the MX and Memory businesses."
The company added that it plans to announce further executive appointments and organizational restructuring for vice presidents and below as part of its 2026 annual reshuffle in the near future.
