(Seoul=Yonhap Infomax) Jong Hwa Han – Melanie Joly, Canada's Minister of Industry and a key decision-maker in the country's 60 trillion won ($45.5 billion) Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP), visited Hanwha Ocean Co.'s Geoje shipyard on the 24th.
Hanwha Ocean CEO Kim Hee-cheol and other executives introduced Minister Joly to the "Jangbogo-III Batch-II" submarine, which the company has proposed for the CPSP contract.
Minister Joly is the latest high-ranking Canadian official to visit the Hanwha Ocean facility, following Prime Minister Mark Carney. Like Prime Minister Carney, Minister Joly toured the recently launched Jang Young-sil submarine, directly assessing the capabilities of the Jangbogo-III Batch-II and Hanwha Ocean's technological strengths.
Hanwha Ocean stated, "While Prime Minister Carney's visit symbolized the building of political trust and the strengthening of security cooperation between the two countries, Minister Joly's visit demonstrates that the Canadian government has entered a phase of in-depth review of the industrial, technological, and economic feasibility of the CPSP project."
CEO Kim Hee-cheol commented, "Minister Joly's visit signifies that Hanwha Ocean's CPSP proposal has entered a full-fledged competitive phase."
He added, "Hanwha Ocean is not only able to provide the optimal solution to meet the Canadian Navy's operational requirements, but also stands as a trusted partner capable of delivering on Canada's desired speed, scale, technology transfer, and supply chain development, fostering mutual growth with Canadian industry."
