(Seoul=Yonhap Infomax) Nam Kyoung Hwang – Kim Byung-ki, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 25th that the party will ensure the passage of the national budget and key livelihood bills according to the legislative schedule.
Speaking at a party strategy meeting at the National Assembly on Tuesday morning, Kim said, “The review of the 2026 national budget is nearing completion,” reaffirming his commitment to timely processing.
“The budget is a national plan that determines the lives and future of our citizens,” Kim emphasized. “However, there have been indiscriminate and irresponsible calls for cuts, even in essential areas such as livelihood support and AI-related future trade response.”
He added, “We cannot allow any retreat in budgets that revitalize regional economies, support small business owners and youth, or build the foundation for future industries. As the ruling party, the Democratic Party will take full responsibility to ensure these funds are allocated appropriately.”
Kim further stressed, “Meeting the statutory deadline is the duty of the National Assembly. The Special Committee on Budget and Accounts aims to finalize its resolution on the 28th, with the plenary session scheduled for December 2. We will proceed without wavering.”
He concluded, “When it comes to budgets and bills for the people’s livelihood and the future, there should be no division between ruling and opposition parties. If both sides work together, it will be the greatest year-end and New Year’s gift we can offer the public.”
