Cramer Says Google's Gemini Poses Most Serious Threat Yet to OpenAI's ChatGPT

(Seoul=Yonhap Infomax) Si Yoon Yoon – Jim Cramer, host of CNBC's "Mad Money," said Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOGL)'s latest AI model, Gemini, could become the strongest competitor to ChatGPT.

According to CNBC on the 24th (local time), Cramer stated, "Gemini is the biggest threat to ChatGPT," emphasizing that it represents an "existential threat" to OpenAI.

Alphabet last week unveiled a new version, Gemini 3, claiming it possesses reasoning capabilities surpassing OpenAI's recently announced GPT-5.1.

Following positive reviews of Gemini's performance, Alphabet shares surged sharply.

On the day, Alphabet closed up 6.31% at $318.58.

Cramer also gave high marks to the model, noting that expectations are running high on Wall Street.

In particular, the integration of Gemini into Alphabet's search platform is being cited as a major strength.

He said, "Gemini is the biggest threat to ChatGPT we've seen so far," adding, "OpenAI now needs to come up with something to fight back."

Cramer referenced Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff's comment that "Gemini is better than ChatGPT," and added, "Alphabet's announcements don't usually cause a shock, but this time, the AI market is so large that the situation is different."

Cramer also pointed out that the slowdown in OpenAI's user growth could pose a significant problem for the company and its partners.

He noted that with OpenAI having committed to spending plans of around $1 trillion, rapid growth is essential to secure funding.

However, he also mentioned that OpenAI may be preparing its own next-generation innovative version, so it cannot be completely ruled out.

Additionally, there was commentary that the Gemini news does not necessarily spell trouble for Oracle, a key OpenAI partner.

Cramer said, "Now Oracle can attract a variety of customers based on its own data center business, so it doesn't have to bet its life on OpenAI," but added, "However, if a business is overly dependent on ChatGPT, the current situation has become riskier."
