(Sejong=Yonhap Infomax) Wook Choi = The National Data Agency and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 25th that they have jointly established a new 'SME Statistics Database (DB)' within the Statistical Business Register (SBR) and have begun offering public access to the service.

The Statistical Business Register is a comprehensive dataset of all companies in South Korea, integrating administrative and survey data to provide firm-level characteristics such as sales, number of employees, company size, and industry classification.

The newly developed SME Statistics DB combines the existing Statistical Business Register with the Ministry's certification data for venture businesses, technology-innovative firms, and management-innovative enterprises, providing information on 8.3 million SMEs.

This enables users to access not only a wide range of company information from the Statistical Business Register but also key certification data that reflects innovation capabilities.

According to the Data Agency, central and local governments will be able to more precisely identify the characteristics of innovative companies by region and industry, allowing for the development of tailored policies. Academia and research institutions are also expected to broaden the scope of SME ecosystem research by leveraging the enriched dataset.

An Hyeong-jun, Commissioner of the National Data Agency, said, "The SME Statistics DB is a representative achievement of inter-agency collaboration, combining the Data Agency's extensive corporate information with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' specialized policy data," adding, "We will continue to break down data silos and strengthen inter-ministerial cooperation going forward."
