(Seoul=Yonhap Infomax) Su In Jeong—A worker in his 50s died after collapsing during an overnight shift at a Coupang logistics center in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, prompting a police investigation.
According to industry sources on the 26th, at approximately 02:04 KST, a male employee in his 50s, identified as Mr. A, collapsed at the Gyeonggi Gwangju 5 Logistics Center located in Munhyeong-dong, Gwangju. He was transported to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.
At the time of the incident, Mr. A was reportedly performing picking duties, which involve collecting and transporting items using a cart.
According to Coupang Fulfillment Services (CFS), Mr. A joined the company as a contract worker in March and had worked an average of 4.8 days and 41 hours per week over the past three months.
A CFS representative stated, "We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased," adding, "We will make every effort to support the bereaved family."
The representative further noted, "The cause of death will be determined by investigative authorities through an autopsy," and requested, "Please refrain from unconfirmed speculation regarding the deceased."
